Inside the bags
Here's a look into what you would typically find within our Chemocare Bags.

Stress Ball
Stress balls are needed to help in 2 ways. Firstly they can be used to help raise blood vessels to aid cannulation for the medication to be administered. Secondly they can be used as a distraction if in pain or discomfort.

Hand Sanitiser
The immune system is weakened during chemotherapy, so hand sanitiser is needed to ensure hands are kept clean to prevent infections.

Adult Colouring Books and Pencils, or Puzzle Books
Adult colouring books and pencils or puzzle books can help to distract and fill in the time during treatment.

Lip Balm
Lip balms are needed as the lips become very dry and chapped during treatment. This is because fast growing cells which includes lip/skin cells are destroyed/damaged as part of the treatment.

Fluffy Socks
Fluffy socks are needed as feet are often cold during Chemotherapy. One of the side effects of chemo is anaemia (lack of red blood cells) this means extremities are cold.

Hand Cream
Hand cream is needed as the hands become very dry and chapped during treatment. This is because fast growing cells which include skin cells are destroyed and damaged as part of the treatment.

Hand Warmer
Hands are often cold during treatment due to anaemia or painful from the IV lines that are put in, this can affect the nerves in the hands. Heat helps alleviate the pain.

Notebook and Pen
A notebook and pen can be used to make notes about treatment, a reminder of questions or to keep a diary of symptoms.

Small Mints
Mints can help alleviate nausea which is common during chemotherapy. Small mints are ideal as they can refresh and take away the metallic taste from the mouth.
